Food Poisoned by Grandma’s Turkey

Who Can You Sue Without Alienating the Rest of the Family? No one said anything about it, but we knew she did it. No big deal. We all forget from time to time. And besides, leaving the turkey out all night wasn’t that bad, right? Wrong. Three days spent shaking and sweating. That upstairs hall bathroom was repeatedly the scene of unimaginable carnage. We missed the Black Friday sales. We missed the opening of Adam Sandler’s new romantic holiday comedy. Once the family recovered, we … [Read more...]

An Intro To Consumer Class Actions

Tom thinking about a bill

"Tom, Honey? What's this $7. 26 charge on our bill?" Ever happen to you? What's the first thing you did? Probably picked up the phone with the corporation and asked for an explanation. We are afraid that they use closely-held to give them advantages over the rest of the great unwashed when buying stocks which will go up and selling those that are about to go down. The problem is these rooms exist. But it's not just old guys smoking cigars. The people … [Read more...]

An Intro To Environmental Class Actions

cartoon tom

"Tom, wake up! A car just hit the house!" Actually, it wasn't a car. The new mining conglomerate just picked an early hour for setting off its first detonation at the new mine less than a mile from Tom and his wife's house. The Polite Thing To Do: Ask For Them To Stop What can Tom and his wife do? Their first move is probably going to be picking up the phone with the mining conglomerate and asking for an accommodation (e.g. smaller charges, more-reasonable hours, etc.) to … [Read more...]

Red Bull Puts Wings On $10 For You After Class Action Suit

redbull

You may be entitled to $10 if you bought a Red Bull product since 2002, under the terms of a proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit.  The lawsuit was filed by customers who argued they were misled about the product's benefits, including the phrase, "Red Bull gives you wings." Red Bull agreed to pay the money — $13 million — to consumers to settle two consumer class-action lawsuits. Plaintiffs in the cases argued that the company's marketing misrepresented the functionality and safety … [Read more...]
